Christmas 1984
Dear Friends,
For those of you who do not know, we lost C____ this year. She and J___ and little Z________ returned from Costa Rica in May and took up residence in North Conway, New Hampshire. Late in August she became ill with a heart condition called Mitral Stenosis. After ten days in the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, she underwent open heart surgery for the replacement of the mitral and aeorta valves on September 19th, but the rest of her heart was so badly damaged that she died early in the morning of September 20th without ever regaining consciousness. After a funeral in North Conway and a memorial service in River Forest, we buried C_____ in a wooded cemetery in Lakeside, Michigan near our cottage -- her favorite place in the world. As her friend S______ J________ wrote to us, we "rejoice that C_____'s quest for a land of serenity, beauty and brotherhood has, at last, been accomplished, while we mourn for the loss of our dear friend and daughter."
Z_____, age 5 1/2, has come to live with us, and we love having him.
