On warm Summer evening in 1972, The Boy returned home from a long, hot day working at the Safeway store in High Desert, California. As was not an unusual occurrence, The Boy often ventured outside in the backyard of his parents' house to look up at the sky at the beautiful array of celestial objects. For those familiar with the nighttime display of stars in Joshua Tree National Park, the stars of the High Desert in 1972 were just as spectacular. They were stunning.
After viewing the stellar display for about half an hour, The Boy began to feel a certain impulse. It was the first of such impulses, but it would not be the last. At this time, the impulse -- the Divine Impulse -- was urging The Boy to abandon The Boy's previous life and to begin immediately to spread the Word of God. The Boy took this to mean the Christian Word that The Boy had grown up with and so, in compliance with the Divine Impulse -- in compliance with "The Call", The Boy immediately began the ministry by walking to my nextdoor neighbor's house to announce the Glory of God.
Those first steps marked the beginning of a rather long Spiritual Journey. The Boy's Spiritual Journey would result in The Boy's being hospitalized for the next three months, to an extended two-week coma during which The Boy dropped to a perilous 83 pounds, to a metaphysical journey beyond time and space, and ultimately to a return to a weakened body and clouded mind.
However, despite The Boy's pitiful condition, the Divine Impulse had begun to transform The Boy into what the Divine wanted The Boy to be. Some may discount its reality.
